The Song of Amarant takes place on the planet of Elohii, specifically the Amarantine Coast. Being slightly smaller than Earth, Elohii circles its unnamed star in three-hundred and fifty-five days. Elohii's smaller moon is white in coloration and orbits between the planet and a reddish belt of debris that is partially visible in the sky at all times, making observation of celestial bodies (such as stars and planets) nearly impossible, though it is known that at least four other planets exist within the solar system. The Amarantine Coast stretches roughly three-thousand miles in length and is bordered to the west by impassable mountains, and to the east by the Great Grey. Across the sea lies the continent of Acaea (ah-kay-ah) and the capitol of the Old Kingdom, Behar.Iskra is one of the largest environmental factors, known to come from space, it is not a naturally occurring resource. Depending on a population's level of exposure, tolerance levels range dramatically from severe allergy to suffering few, if any symptoms on contact. Mastery of iskra provides one the ability to harness the reality-bending nature of the stone to various degree. Most common on the Amarantine Coast, and hardly known of on the continent of Acaea, the humming stone and those that use it are often met with suspicious and at times even intolerance, though the shift favoring those that adapt to its usage has occurred, and it becomes more and more common across the land.In recent years, the Udaran city vouched for the independence of the Amarantine Coast as a whole, calling itself the New Kingdom of Man with varying degrees of approval from the people. War was waged, and lost, by Behar to reclaim control of the mining colonies run astray. Officially established as their own kingdom, the Amarantine Coast set to rebuilding. Society on the Amarantine Coast is, by far, strongly progressive - most cultures are strongly gender equal and sexuality is a non-issue. Specific cultures, such as the Vaarentee and the Sons and Daughters of Freehold, may hold matriarchal or patriarchal views (respectively), though women generally are welcome to do anything a man might do, including, but not limited to, serving in the military, holding a position of power and controlling land. Much of the societal conflict, in turn is not based on one's gender, but blood - though many of the species maintain a sort of peace by the law of their land, there is certainly still a lot of name calling and mudslinging to go about.
