The time is set in the present, in the mountains of Washington State, in a decent size town of Hollow Brook. Hollow Brook seems like the best place to live. It is an open community, so it does not matter if you are gay or straight, black or white. It's almost peaceful. Plenty of businesses, the local college, quaint little shops. No one knows how Hollow Brook came to be. It is said that the town was built on an ancient burial ground. The spirits of the dead try and get back at the living by possessing them and getting them to kill the other civilians.
MuWhat the civilians don't know is that the town is run by the government. A person known as The Diary Keeper, keeps track of when people moved into town, keep an eye on the population, how long they have lived there and who is the next to die and how. The government turns a selected member of Hollow Brook society and turns them into a murderer. The selected person will have no memory of the murder taking place. It seems that whenever a new person moves to town another one has to die. No one knows how or why this happens. But the question is, who will be the next to die?
