There is a darker truth, though.
Those that learn the origin of the Stone know why it is such a controversial item. It offers unlimited power, at a terrible price. There are few who can bear to create one, who can bear to rip the souls out of dozens, hundreds, millions of living human beings.
The Red Stone is priceless to some and there are those who would go to great lengths to obtain one. Some who do not know the terrible origins, but there are those who are fully aware of how a Stone is born.
There are also the Homunculi who draw on the power of the Stone imbedded in them to regenerate and live unnaturally long lives. There is the Amestrian military who will go to any lengths to maintain their superiority over other countries.
There is the mysterious figure who seems to control the Homunculi, driving them to achieve his own, mysterious, goals.
Three sides are drawing toward a collision. The ones who know the method to create the Stone and find it morally abhorrent. The Homunculi and their mysterious puppet master. And the Amestrian Military, who seek, seemingly, to do nothing more than secure their own power base.
Caught in the middle of it all is a young boy and his brother only seeking to find some new, less disturbing, way to regain their original bodies.
