  1. Salutations,

DixieDarkness is the name or you could call me TCD or just Darkness. Whatever you prefer. I will respond to any of those. Hmm... what to put... let me see...

I own two tanks worth of fish. One ten gallon and one 30 gallon. I keep fresh water fish. Both cold and tropical. I enjoy looking at Betta Shows and Aquascapes. I did have a membership to the IBC, but let it lapse. |D What else? Hmm, rp wise I have been on the scene since 2003. I don't do "wolf speak" or "chat speak". I just don't. I rarely novel write and prefer para to anything else.

Hmm... I guess this is it for now. Anything else, just ask. :D

Hey, Darkness! I didn't know that Betta Shows were even a thing (I'm an aquarium noob). I only recently found out about aquascapes. Wish I'd known a little more before starting my own planted tank, but things could be going worse. :P I have a little 10 gallon freshwater shrimp tank with a DIY CO2 system. What's your favourite thing about the fish keeping hobby?

  3. The fact I spoil my fish horribly and water changes. I crank up the music, do a little jig, and do some water changing. I haven't done a DIY CO2 system yet. So far all my plants are doing well. Some are going on 2+ years with me. :D

I enjoy Bettas because of their personalities. Each one is different. They can range from super mellow to super aggressive. I love them. I enjoy Guppies because of their genetics. You can get some wacky colors from breeding them. I bred them once and nearly had my own line going till I got hit by a parasite. Which devastated my community. I had to start from scratch. Long story.

I also love Otocinclus catfish. Most people can't keep them alive (so I hear), but I have always had good luck with those. The only thing I have issues keeping more than a year is ghost shrimp. I haven't found their happy median yet I guess. Or the store I get them from just treats them like crap and therefore have early deaths. o...o

So awesome. ^_^ Someone else who I can babble about fish things with! Haha. The only reason why I went the CO2 route is because I have a ridiculous light (Aquasky 451). Without it, it'd be algae for days. I plan on switching over to pressurized CO2 in a few more months. My tank is only about three months old, so hopefully it does well!

Bettas are really cute. I don't think I've ever owned one personally, but people in my family have. They're probably one of my favourite fish, even though I still don't see myself as much of a fish person (yet?).

I actually have an Otocinclus in with my shrimp. It's not dead yet! I'd heard that they were super sensitive, so I drip acclimated him to my tank just like I did with my shrimp. So far, so good. It was the only fish that I trusted not to nom on my little shrimp fry.

  5. I love babbling about my fish! :D A few of my ghost shrimp had some babies live to be at least shrimp size. So, I think there was something good going on there. I just have to replace them every so often. About 6 months or so. Most of the shrimp my LFS (local fish store) get in are adults. Not juvies. Therefore telling how old they are is impossible. Just like with any of their fish. I keep asking my hubby to let me order from a breeder, but he keeps saying no. So, all have is "pet" variety.

I am wanting to say, I have at least 1 Oto that is at least 2+ years. I recently got it some friends and it seemed to perk up. I currently have 4 in my 30 gallon. So far, I have really good luck with those fish. Awesome little algae eaters. Always busy. The younger ones will play in the tank. I enjoy watching them play in the sponge filter bubbles or chase each other around.

My current female betta is tolerant of other fish (which can be rare). She doesn't chase anyone around and just sort of pouts when she doesn't like something. XD

I haven't had much luck with getting aquatic life from LFS. The best thing I got from them was flatworms (despite quarantine and bleach-dipping plants)! Hrrrrk. The shrimp that I currently own I got from a breeder though, and they've been super healthy. My Oto I got from a LFS, and I'm kind of surprised that it lived. The rest of them at the store at the time didn't look so great. So I'm glad that it's been doing so well. It really likes to tear around and play a night which is pretty amusing.

Is the female betta in the larger tank? I'd heard that they are sometimes more friendly toward other fish when they have more space to themselves.

  7. Yes, she is in the big tank. I did have another female that chased only the Neon Tetras and left the guppies alone. Strange fish. The current one I have is more tolerant and seems to "socialize" well. Which people can pull off sororities with female bettas. If the personalities are right and the right numbers are introduced. I think the min for a sorority is like 5-6 females. As they create a "pecking" order.

Awww... poor little neons. That's really cool that you have one that is more tolerant. I have a hard enough time trying to balance plant needs. I can't imagine trying to balance even more life and attempting to create sororities. Maybe in another year or so when I have more space and can get a bigger tank. :) My favourite part of taking care of my shrimp so far is watching them clean themselves. They do this thing where they curl up and to grab their tail fins to clean. It leads to fun statements like, "Aww, she's cleaning her butt!"

  9. They are always fun to watch. Some of my shrimp tend to swim up to the top of the water and grab fish flakes. They get their own food, but I always get tickled watching a few of them do that. Or try to get my finger if they "smell" it with their antennas. I love shrimp. I honestly do. Maybe one day I will order some from a breeder. Right now I play "hit or miss" my LFS. They consider ghost shrimp "food" so they only get them every so often. v...v

So cute. :3 I have some frogbit in my tank as well, so sometimes they swim up, grab on to the frogbit roots, and then get swirled around in the current. Sometimes there's three or more of them clinging to the roots at a time, so it's like a little shrimp merry go round. XD

    Hello there and welcome. :)

  12. Thank you for the welcome! <3

It is extremely cute to watch them. I have fun doing so. I recently went back to my LFS and they still don't have any ghost shrimp. As soon as this cold snap is over with, I am thinking of ordering off the internet. |D However, I did pick up some Neons to go with my two Rummy-nose and a male guppy. The male guppy is called a "snake skin". He looks very similar to this guy: http://www.tropicalfishintl.com/images/enlarge/Guppy/RedSnakeskin-uu11.jpg
