I never realized there were so many different resources for rpg groups. I absolutely hate advertising for new players because it never seems to work. My best source of fresh blood has always been from word of mouth of existing players. But now that I need to fill an entire fresh-start game, that method won't work for me. My advertising on Facebook and pbem.com never seems to lead anywhere so I'm excited to see what this site can offer. I have been gaming online since the 90's at a point when I had to maintain my own email list of players - to using yahoogroups - to forums - to nova... I almost exclusively play in the star trek genre but have found other genres to be interesting too. It's a great way to write and share with others. It's also a great way to meet people from all around the world.
Welcome aboard. sounds like we're in the same boat. My site is starving for members and I agree with you. advertising for new members just doesn't work.
Most members come from sites like this. At one point. I did away with advertising for my sites, because of that.
Welcome to RPGFix! :D It's a great place with great people. <3 I haven't been on Facebook in forever... LOL! And I used to be pretty big in Yahoo Groups, too! Gosh, so long ago, haha. You gave me a big bout of nostalgia there <3
Hello and welcome to you. Advertising is very much hit and miss. In my experience its often been about what you are promoting as much as where you promote it. I don't do much of it myself, since in my instances I'm usually either a member or Moderator on sites; but I know my daughter has been somewhat successful with Facebook more so than resource sites in the past, but that she has said has become a little better. For example you may have more luck with a Star Trek RPG, than say Stargate on the same resource site, it really depends on who is looking.
Hello and welcome to RPGFix! Advertising can be kinda tedious and it doesn't seem as fruitful nowadays, but you gotta stick with it. Some places are better than others, but it really depends on the genre and the people who are looking at the moment. Like The Mother said, it's hit or miss.
Advertising is the biggest reason I don't like running my own game... but it's something that I inherited. And I went to the trouble to take some classes on web design too. Things you do for your players and they never realize what you've done. ;)
I am definitely in the same boat. I try to advertise, but I just don't have any pickup, so now I am stuck with trying to figure out how to make it known. I am trying this to see if it works, but I see a lot of people like to have forum rps, which mine is not.
