How did you get started with roleplaying?

Funny that I happened to see this, because I happened to create CbW back in the day. <3 Much love...

Anyway, I too started with a pokemon game because it was what I knew. But that was my role playing debut... a friend of mine introduced me to the idea of role playing over an MSN chat and she basically instructed and taught me how me, the player, should act and how I should properly respond to other posts. I tried getting into some of the games that she was on... but I didn't get into them. She was a wolf player and I found out quickly that I didn't enjoy role playing animals very much. She still pointed me to Avidgamers and I tinkered a bit and then, alas, found that pokemon game that I use to really admire. Anyway, long story short, I created my own game and have been with it for nearly 8 years now. I tried expanding out into different games as well, so I know that I prefer fantasy games where I can either play as a human or something relatively equal.

I used to play Runescape (2 I think) and when I started getting bored with in-game play I went into the forums and found this neat thing called roleplaying. It sounded fun, a lot of the RP's looked very interesting (granted I was terrible), but I started there and haven't looked back since. Of course, I've moved on to larger and better RP's, but we all had to start somewhere.

I was ten. I was obsessed with the Harry Potter series. I remember I was palling around on the internet, and I saw this site where you could pretend to be a wizard--you could go through Hogwarts and get sorted and practice magic. I didn't even realize it was role-playing until about a year later!

 

I remember I was a fan of Amos Daragon.
I was dragged on a rp-group by mistake and was so much puzzled that I decided to explore and try to understand it,
once I understood what it was: I fell in love and dragged all my school friends in it.

We became the Trio! :D Three brothers fighting evil. It was so awesome!

My first online experience with roleplaying was in 1997. I had just been introduced to online gaming with the original Diablo when I stumbled into their chat forums. A few of us kept bantering in character and someone invited us to a secret room called 'townsquare'. It was the safe haven for roleplaying. I'd put it akin to Mirc chatting. Before I knew it I was roleplaying more than I was gaming. I loved it! So much so that when I came home to my parents I wrote letters to various friends i made online and continued a snailmail roleplay! My parents had dial up, and I didn't own the game. It didn't take long for me to branch out into the internet, and I've been here ever since.

 

It all started on Howrse a few years back. I had no idea what literate roleplaying was, but was first introduced to it when one of my friends invited me to join her. I read up on how it all worked, and...the rest is history. ^^

 

I started on msn groups hahaha. Roleplaying "neko" characters, mostly Naruto. Then I switched to Neopets 10 1/2 years ago and around that time got into the Warrior cat series. x)

 

I started with Warriors years ago and continue to drift back to it out of habit. I also enjoy fantasy roleplays though. I'd love to find a good Song of Ice and Fire roleplay...

 

MSN groups way back when O.O

 

I think it was some awful yahoo groups RPG based on either Dragon Ball Z or Final Fantasy. I know it had a ridiculous stat system and it was full of one liners.

 

I started role-playing on a site called starfleet stf, it was really fun.

 

I started roleplaying when I somehow stumbled upon a very old canonless Hogwarts RPG. This was waaay back in 2004. I've been coming back to RPs and branched out into superpowers and Pokemon ever since then.

 

Oh, boy... *coughs* I first started role-playing in AOL Chatrooms, during the infamous old days of Rhy'Din. I also RP'd in their Star Wars rooms, which eventually got me interested in searching out play by post sites - most notably ones hosted on InvisionFree and Proboards. Wow, that seems so long ago...

 

I got my start on Neopets. I did some casual RPing in really awful wolf, pokemon, and fantasy RPs on the Neoboards for a while until someone there introduced me to AvidGamers, which is where I really started to delve into the RPing world.

 

A friend introduced me twelve years ago and since then I was hooked. I started in Harry Potter and moved onto Sci-fi. :) It really has improved my writing! :P

 

I started back on Beseen chats. The same ones that Inversia mentions. Sinlahekin Wildlife Refuge was my home. Angel Valley was one of the packs in it. Which I ran as a character named SabbathSong. Gods, but those days were crazy, crazy times. I still sort of miss them.

 

As embarrassing as it is, I started over on Neopets. I may have been 10 or 11, I don't remember my exact age. I played around in some cringe worthy animal and highschool role plays.

 

So much reminiscing with everyone's answers ahhhh. I started on RPG chats on deviantArt in the early 2000s, wrote in some chats, then created my own game. Some years later, I was watching Dark Angel and decided to find a game, found on on Yahoo Groups, and met my best friend there. We're grown up now and she's married and has a kid. I visit her all the time. We met back when meeting people online (friends or otherwise) was still weird! Times have changed XD
