I'm an illustrator/comic artist, so I prefer to draw my own--no FC is exactly "right", anyway, so I don't really feel that attached to them. I've never minded a mix of both--whatever works for folks. I don't take the FC as like, a 1:1 representation of the character anyway. I have noticed that a lot of sites/people are really strict about it though, which is interesting to me considering my mind does not work that way at all. I actually find THAT more off-putting than anything else... Since the primary mode of expression is the written word, I just don't know why it should matter that much.

By far the real life fc community is leaps and bounds larger than the animanga community. The animanga community has also vastly moved to jcink sites within the past few years, and hardly any remain on proboards nowadays. I actually see more real life sites on proboards than animanga. I prefer either animanga fcs or original artwork, myself. I can do real life fcs, but I prefer not to.

I prefer RL face claims in almost all my writing. Even when playing comic characters I'll choose an actor/model playby to represent them since getting a real face attached to the character is a pretty vital part of character creation/development for me, the choice is less for my partner or the site at large and more for me developing my own connection to the character. The only real exception to this are monstrous and fantasy races where the amount of photoshop to make things 'realistic' takes away from the feel and magic of the character, but even then I tend to prefer realistic art rather than anime styles. It is beautiful though so I totally understand the allure.

I prefer face claims that are drawn/painted. But I can go almost any which way on them, depending on my interest.

  5. I used to hate having to pick a real person as a face claim, much preferring to use art or straight physical descriptions. However as the years went on I got used to the majority of sites requiring real person face claims, and now it's made some aspects of profile creation easier/more streamlined, requiring less fields, and less chance of copyright issues (usually). Also can help find a voice for your character.
