When looking for a forum RPG, is the host important for your choice?

I think I favor Proboards - but that's probably because I've only ever RP'd on a site hosted by them. Jcink ones always seem really really hard to navigate - at least the ones I've seen while peeking at links posted to our forum, anyway! Which puts me off quite a bit.

 

As an admin, I really really appreciate open source code. I generally like the ability to move my data from one provider to the next with little issue. I don't mind the cost of hosting on a vps so if I were to do it again, I'll just throw up a vbulletin thing and go from there.

As a player, so long as I can type in markdown or bbscript, it has its own dice roller and the site has the ability to host images so I don't have to use imgur, then I am good to go.
