JCINK Looking for Better Jcink directory design Ideas

I have been agonizing over this for a few weeks as I redesigned the skin for my jcink forums. The directory is great for the absolute basic needs. But I am looking for something more intuitive, easy to navigate that allows users to search for characters based on traits.

I am having a hard time finding resources on how to modify this. does anyone know a good place to start?
I heard a bird about something with Isotope does the trick but I dont know much about it.

Some are no longer up and running, but if you search "sites like ____ " it'll pull up jcink coding resources. I only use css/jquery since I'm on MYBB but I've nabbed ideas from these types of boards before
