Sorry, I couldn't resist the title. I go by Jo or Jolene at most places and I've been rping for nearly a decade I just realized. Took a break from it the last few years but I've been steadily getting back into the swing of things. I generally like to RP supernatural themes, horror, fandom, occasionally super powers and real life so who knows, maybe I've crossed paths with some of you here before.

Hey, welcome! May I ask you what games you've been playing? I'm into supernatural and horror as well, but I don't remember someone with your name.

Hi Featherstone, thanks for the welcome! Lately? Panfandom horror game named Haunted which recently closed and currently in two other panfandom horror games called horrorwood & bad moon rising. Then I was just playing one on one for a while but back in early 2010s called Blackest Night, vampires/werewolves/etc. Oh, have you ever played on journals like LJ/IJ/GJ?

Hi Turnpages! And, hm, no, I don't know those. I mainly know about Vampire: the Masquereade / World of Darkness games; once you are into that canon it's kind of odd to play in other horror settings (exception being Lovecraft: I'd be up for some of those).

Also, no experience with journals. How are they, compared to forums?

Not terribly different in terms of writing, you create character journals like you would a character accounts on a forum and typically these journals are used to join communities that work like boards. Usually players post in the IC threads in the communities and their own development posts and/or diaries in the journals although even now and there certain games have slightly different formats.

Overall I do find forums to be more streamlined and better organized. Like if you want to go review an old thread it's a lot easier to find it on a forum than a journal (unless you've used a post tracker). Unfortunately the journal based rp world seems to have passed its heyday as there aren't nearly as many communities still running or being started.

    I see!

Talking about organizing threads, on my board I have a Timeline - the main purpose is having at least a vague idea of what happens first, but it's very useful to find old threads any time, too.
